Searches for ancient tales and beliefs brought folklorist and scholar Andrey Beloretsky to a remote corner of Belarusian Polesye—the Bolotnye Eļi estate. Here, in an old castle, lives young Nadezhda—the last of the noble house of the Yanovskys. According to legend, once Nadezhda’s ancestor Roman lured Stakh onto a hunt and treacherously killed the legendary king Sthakh. As he was dying, Stakh foretold a curse and eternal revenge by the “wild hunt” against the entire Yanovsky family line.
