“—Where’s even Wi‑Fi here?” Matvey took out his phone and swept his hand through the air, as if he were catching invisible waves.
“—That’s exactly the point!” Kirill snatched the phone from his hands and put it in his pocket.
“—Full detox!”
“Hey!” Matvey tried to grab it, but he deftly bounced back toward the car.
“Don’t worry! You’ll like it here!” He was already climbing into the jeep.
“Landlady— you’ll like it, right? And you’ll rest, you’ll relax! You really need it, Matvey—trust an old friend!”
I barely managed to open my mouth when the engine roared and the jeep shot off, leaving Matvey standing there with empty hands, and leaving me with a guest I definitely hadn’t expected.
Slowly, he turned to me.
“Do you have any kind of connection here at all?” he asked in that icy tone he usually used: “Streltsova, what nonsense is this? Redo it by morning.”
I sweetly smiled, feeling a small but proud bird of revenge flutter in my chest.
“Only with nature,” I whispered, watching him close his eyes as if praying for patience.
