Description
Viktor Yuzefovich Dragunsky (1913–1972) — a Soviet writer whose works for children remain as relevant as when they were written. The writer was made famous by stories from the life of a boy named Deniska. They became children’s classics already during the author’s lifetime and rightfully entered the golden fund of children’s literature.

The future writer was born in New York, into a family of Jewish emigrants from Gomel who left Tsarist Russia to seek a better fate across the ocean. But the new life didn’t work out, and after wandering, the immigrants returned home. Viktor’s father died in 1918 of typhus, and the family moved to Moscow. He discovered his literary gifts early. Already in 1930, he began actively writing and publishing. As a writer, he found his niche in the humorous genre: he wrote humorous stories, feuilletons, and sketches for stage and circus.
