Selma Lagerlöf is the most famous Swedish writer, the first woman to be awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature, and the author of many novels, novellas, and short stories. In 2008, not only in Sweden but throughout the world, people celebrated the 150th anniversary of the birth of this amazing storyteller who introduced us to the adventures of Nils with wild geese.
The dramatic events of the novella “The Money of Mr. Arne,” whose film adaptation became a classic of world cinema, take place in the second half of the sixteenth century on the west coast of the Scandinavian peninsula. A monstrous murder is committed. And when it turns out that the living are unable to find the murderers, the dead come to the rescue, demanding revenge. Mystery is interwoven with the detective plot.
