The hero is the son of wealthy parents—so, a “spoiled rich kid” (mazhor). By circumstances, he has to leave for Donbass to wait out trouble in Russia. There, he joins the militia. During a patrol, the group of fighters dies under bombing. The essence of the mazhоr is transferred into the body of a cousin-uncle who is supposed to die at the end of the Great Patriotic War.
For the hero, life in the USSR isn’t right, because he doesn’t understand the ideology of Soviet people. He looks for ways to escape to America, where the capitalism familiar to him is. But it isn’t so easy to leave the country of the Soviets. What adventures happen to the mazhоr—you can learn by reading the book.
