In his youth, Frédéric Lanberg dreamed of writing books, but fate arranged otherwise: he became a feared and hated critic whom all literary Paris hates and fears. His work became unbearable; he has no friends, and the woman he loves died in a car accident. He wants nothing anymore and believes in nothing. Yet a new life is waiting at his doorstep—in a mysterious message from a stranger. Who is hidden behind the signature “Karin”? And who is actually wearing Frédéric’s skin?
Didier van Cauwelaert is one of the largest contemporary French writers, a playwright, essayist, screenwriter, and stage director, a recipient of many prestigious literary and theater awards, including the Goncourt Prize and the French Academy’s Theatre Prize. He was born in Nice in 1960.
In the novel “Another’s Skin,” astonishing and unexpected—as always with Cauwelaert—it is, above all, about love: love for a woman, for life, and of course for literature.
