This story is based on a beautiful but sad Japanese legend about the higanbana flower. One day, the sun goddess Amaterasu planted it in the Valley of High Skies. She ordered two nature spirits—Manzyu and Syae—to guard the flower, but they ended up falling in love with each other, breaking every heavenly law. Angry Amaterasu punished them by separating the lovers forever. Only after death, in the realm of the dead Yomi, could they meet again. There, in the land of Yellow Waters, Manzyu and Syae promised to find each other in the next life so they could fully enjoy their feelings. And everything would have gone well—if not for one lovesick kitsune who also wanted to be close. And she won’t stop at anything.
