His first miracle, Jamie Winters, performed in the morning. The second, third, and the rest were later—during the day. But the first miracle was always the most important.
It was always the same: “Make it so that Mom gets better. Let her cheeks turn rosy. Let Mom recover as soon as possible.”
After all, it was because of his mother’s illness that he first thought about himself and about miracles. And now, for her sake, he kept improving his gift for miracle-working so that he could heal her, and so that life would whirl around like a festive carousel.
He wasn’t new to miracles. He had been doing them before, but he lacked confidence; sometimes he made mistakes, or he was interrupted with the word “mom” or “dad,” and sometimes seventh-graders—his classmates—would shout and ruin everything…
