Description
Pavel Astakhov collected in this book dozens of authentic stories about miracles in wartime—from legends of holy warriors in ancient times to eyewitness accounts from our contemporaries who had to face death and salvation face to face.
War and a miracle—how can such different things coexist? Is it possible for God’s help to act right in the very furnace of battle? Russian history answers again and again: yes. God is present everywhere, which means that even in war there is room for a miracle. Moreover, it is in the hardest, bitterest, and most frightening minutes that it shows itself especially clearly and tangibly.
Many accounts of God’s miracles also concern today’s events on the fronts of the SVO. People pass along stories about inexplicable rescues and signs: paper icons take the deadly blow, a shell flying straight toward people seems to be diverted… But the main miracle of war is the change of the human heart—when a soldier encounters God’s mercy and love.
In this book, the well-known human-rights advocate and TV presenter Pavel Astakhov publishes numerous testimonies of miraculous events at the front, recorded from the words of direct participants. The collection also includes stories about holy warriors of the past and miraculous occurrences during the First and Second World Wars, as well as the Afghan and Chechen campaigns.
Rank-and-file soldiers, commanders, military priests, civilians, and the author himself share their unembellished stories. And all of them agree on one thing: God helped our soldiers before—and is helping them today.
