Wondrous Are Thy Works, O Lord!

The main hero of the novel—Andrey Ilyich Bogolyubov, the newly appointed director of the Museum of Fine Arts in Pereslavl—could not have imagined how strange and unusual the very first day of his work in this God-forsaken town would turn out. Starting with a meeting with an incomprehensible creature that foretold his imminent death, and ending with a punctured car tire—with a note pinned to it saying, “Get out before it’s too late!”

Perhaps if Andrey Ilyich had known what awaited him later, the first day of his stay in this backwater town would have been his last. But it didn’t happen that way, and Bogolyubov is drawn into a whirlwind of mysterious and inexplicable events…
