The Wondrous Doctor

This recording is a radio adaptation of Alexander Ivanovich Kuprin’s amazing and perhaps kindest story, “The Wondrous Doctor.”
The family of the former manager Mertsalov, finding themselves in a grave, practically hopeless situation, can no longer do anything to help their seriously ill youngest daughter. A tragic ending seems inevitable.
And then a real miracle happens. Professor Pirogov unexpectedly enters their lives.
The story is also remarkable because the professor is not a fictional character, but the very same Nikolai Ivanovich Pirogov, a legend of world surgery, a man to whose medical skill and energy thousands upon thousands of soldiers and officers in several wars owed their health and their lives.
