Description
The terrifying carousel spins, and the first visitors enter the ominous Mirror Labyrinth—this is the traveling carnival. A small town finds itself in the grip of evil and cruel forces, and only souls pure in heart are able to save the townspeople from being turned into terrible zombies. The novel “Something Terrible Is Coming” tells of the struggle of two teenagers against the People of Autumn—mysterious and frightening masters and slaves of Luna Park.
The story’s premise was taken by Bradbury from his own short story “The Devil’s Wheel.” At the center of the plot are two boys, William Halluway and Jim Nightshade, who escaped at night from home to see the carnival and witnessed the transformation of Cougar (a forty-year-old carnival participant) into a twelve-year-old boy. That’s when their adventures began.
The novel was rewritten from a screenplay that Bradbury wrote for director Gene Kelly. Kelly couldn’t find funding, and Bradbury reworked the screenplay into a book.
