Vasily Nikolayevich Lopatin, a second-rank quartermaster, a war correspondent for "Krasnaya Zvezda," managed to visit several fronts, to witness fighting in Crimea and near Odessa. After a brief return to the Moscow editorial office, he is sent to the far North. And wherever fate throws him, he writes articles and essays about people who every day selflessly defend their Motherland. All of them, showing incredible courage, unbending resolve, and strength of spirit, literally before his eyes become part of the heroic chronicle of the great feat of the Soviet people in their fight against fascist invaders.
