The Fourth Way

G. I. Gurdjieff is one of the most outstanding and mysterious figures of the 20th century. A philosopher-mystic, writer, composer, traveler, and founder of the Institute of Harmonious Human Development, he is known above all as the creator of the esoteric doctrine of the Fourth Way, which had a colossal influence on many spiritual schools around the world. This collection includes four books from Gurdjieff’s program cycle “Everything and Everything” in which the history and foundations of his teaching are presented: “Man is a complex being,” “Meetings with Remarkable People,” “Life is Real Only Then, When ‘I Am,’” and “Views from the Real World.” In them, three traditional paths of a person are described—“the fakir’s path,” or the path of the body; “the monk’s path,” or the path of faith; “the yogi’s path,” or the path of the mind—and also the universal Fourth Way that combines physical, emotional, and intellectual spheres. The essence of the Fourth Way is the transformation of human consciousness, including the attainment of harmony and a state of enlightenment.
