A black streak in the life of the police commissioner Leo Kroytner, it seemed, was coming to an end. Not long ago, when making homemade schnapps, he almost set the house on fire. And for reckless driving, he was temporarily stripped of his license.
And then, at a masquerade ball at the brewery mill’s venue, in the course of his courting, a woman answered his advances—about whose mutuality he dared not even dream. The evening promised an eagerly anticipated intimacy, but where could he take his beloved?
Cleverly, Kroytner finds a solution fast. He borrows from acquaintances the key to a man’s mansion—the man is currently away. He persuades the father of his supervisor, Wallner, to go along with his wild ideas, and the three of them in the old man’s car set off for the empty house.
In the bedroom, instead of the promised pleasures, a nasty surprise awaits Kroytner: the corpse of the mansion’s owner. And an unhinged girl with a pistol in her hand appears from the neighboring room and shoots the policeman in the head. It seems like a straightforward crime—and the killer is in the hands of justice—but the brilliant duo of the two policemen, Wallner and Kroytner, won’t allow the investigation to be pushed in the wrong direction.
