Gaston Leroux wrote many books about crimes and adventures, but his best-known work became the gothic novel “The Phantom of the Opera,” which served as the basis for a famous musical. In “The Phantom of the Opera,” a wealthy widower, André de Laubose, leaves his castle and factory under the control of his brother and the brother’s wife. Five years later, at a dinner party at the La Roserre castle, a group of guests conducts a séance, during which André’s spirit tells them he has been murdered. Jacques and Fanny first think it’s a joke, but soon they face the mysterious disappearance of André and the strange circumstances of his death.
