The Man Called Mouse

Among tramps and police alike, he was known by the nickname “Mouse.” He made his living by begging in two districts of Paris and often spent nights in police stations. One day, out of habit, he approached a lonely parked car hoping to ask for small change, and peered inside—and saw a corpse in the seat. A tightly stuffed wallet was there too.

His instincts worked instantly: the wallet went into his pocket, and he fled the scene. But Mouse wasn’t as simple as he seemed. Most of the money he turned in to a lost-and-found office, figuring that if the owner didn’t appear within a year, the money would pass to him by law. Now he has to keep a close eye on how the investigation is progressing, trying to ensure the police don’t discover the body any sooner than necessary.
