The book by the well-known Polish writers Alina and Czesław Centkiewicz is devoted to the life and work of the remarkable Norwegian polar explorer Roald Amundsen. With Amundsen’s name are associated such outstanding geographical discoveries as the first successful voyage from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific along the northern coast of the American continent via the so-called Northwest Passage, and the achievement of the South Pole. Amundsen also made great contributions by using airplanes and airships for Arctic expeditions.
Intended for a youth audience, the book awakens readers’ interest in the natural sciences and discoveries; it teaches endurance, courage, and persistence.
