Exes: Kids (Not) from the Boss

“To go fishing?” I look, astonished, at two cheeky little boys. “Who catches more?” says Sashka, sniffling.

Ha! So they’re trying to talk me into something, a “bet”?! No way.

“Excellent,” I smile at them with all thirty-two teeth. “But we need to ask your mom.”

“Mom can’t,” the boys immediately correct themselves. “She works!”

“I can,” I say confidently. “She works for me.”

Taaak… Where is this priceless employee they’re praising so much? Curiosity gets the better of me.

“Mom!” the twins suddenly shout and happily wave their hands at someone behind my back.

I turn around, and my breath catches in my chest—like prickly cold dust.

Bitterness rises in my mouth.

The one I loved more than life. The one who changed me. Betrayed me.

I look into the shocked eyes of a pale woman.

“Mom?” I ask again, not believing my ears. “You?..”

I loved her more than life. But she betrayed me with my rival. And now, years later, I meet her in this hole in the ground… and I’m friends with her sons?
