Fantic, the red cat—a lazy homebody—one day decides to find out where the swallows go every year. Fantic hurries off toward adventures! In Antarctica, he meets penguins and becomes friends with an old harbor pilot. In North America, he slips into an Indian reservation and watches a ritual where a newborn is given a secret name that protects from evil spirits. And in Australia, the cat—against his will—ends up participating in kangaroo races! But all the while, Fantic feels longing for home, so with joy he returns to Kislovodsk with his owner.
