This book is the result of the author’s decade-long work on the history of the defense of the Brest Fortress: many trips and long reflections, the search for documents and people, meetings and conversations. It is the final outcome of this work.
I was a participant in the war and saw a great deal in those memorable years. But it was the feat of the defenders of the Brest Fortress that, as if by a new light, illuminated everything I had seen, revealed the strength and breadth of our people’s soul, forced me to experience with special sharpness the happiness and pride of realizing that we belong to a great, noble, and selfless nation capable of accomplishing the impossible.
