An American Marriage

“An American Marriage” is a piercing story of love and life—of people who are both bound and separated by forces they cannot control. Newlyweds Celestia and Roy embody the American dream. He is a young manager on the brink of a brilliant career, she is a promising talented artist. But before the young couple has even experienced all the small joys and sorrows of shared life, they face trials that were impossible to predict. Roy is arrested and sentenced to twelve years for a crime he didn’t commit. Celestia, despite her strong and independent character, is emptied out. She begins a relationship with Andre, her childhood friend and best man at her wedding. She demands a divorce from her husband, understanding she won’t be able to love him the way she did before. Suddenly, five years later, Roy’s sentence is overturned, and he returns to Atlanta, ready to resume the relationship with his wife.
