Great Evil and Small Mischiefs

Minister of Press and Information Potapov decided to go to a former classmates’ reunion quite unexpectedly, even to himself. He had simply gotten free early. He regretted his idiotic impulse as soon as a commotion broke out at the school over his person. After the evening, he stepped into the schoolyard behind Marusya Surkova, the one he used to copy from.
Then there was a pop, and Manya fell. Potapov lifted her from a pool of blood and, ignoring the guard’s shouts, drove her to Sklifosovsky Hospital. He was sure the bullet had been meant for him.
Strange, though—who could have known he would go to the school? Yet the investigator believes the attempt was on Marusya. But who could possibly need her dead?
