Description
Finalist of the Aurora Prize.

A noir-style detective story set on Mars in the future, where the cost of everything is extremely low—and human life is even cheaper.

The main character, Alex Lomex, is the only private detective who works on the filthy streets of Martian New Klondike. This city came into being after Simon Weingarten and Danny O’Riley found fossils on the Red Planet. On Earth, where you can create anything, the remains of extraterrestrial life are considered the most valuable to collectors, so ships rushed to Mars with brave treasure seekers, causing the Great Martian fever.

Trying to earn honestly in a world full of deception, Lomex hunts murderers and kidnappers among failed gold prospectors, corrupt police officers, and a growing group of trasfers—those who, having found a paleontological treasure, transferred their consciousness into immortal android bodies. But when he finds the keys to solving the long-ago murders of Weingarten and O’Riley and also a diary capable of leading to the legendary deposit of Martian fossils, it’s hard to predict what he will discover.
