Alexander Chakovsky recalled that in “The Blockade” he first took on a large multi-volume canvas, with action moving from the trench to the General Staff, from Moscow to Berlin, from a private apartment to the Kremlin. One of the decisive factors of our victory in the Great Patriotic War, the author sees in the all-people’s resistance to the enemy—hence the main hero became the people, personified in the images of Alexey Zvyaginsev, Ivan Korolev, Leonid Govorov… — there are about three hundred active characters in the novel.
