An informal business course from one of today’s most successful entrepreneurs—Sir Richard Branson. Candidly about business, leadership, and the unique atmosphere where new products and outstanding service are born.
Sir Richard Branson is a British businessman, billionaire, philanthropist, and an eccentric character. Founder of Virgin Group. Branson was born in a small English village. At school he did poorly because of dyslexia. But from childhood, an entrepreneurial spirit lived in him. For example, at one time he was into growing Christmas fir trees and breeding budgerigars. True, those ideas didn’t end up being anything grand.
In 1970, when Richard was 20, he founded the Virgin company, which was involved in the music recording business. The project turned out to be extremely successful. Richard’s company wasn’t afraid to sign contracts with little-known groups (for example, Sex Pistols). This policy brought Branson millions.
In 1984, Richard opened a company dealing in air transportation—Virgin Atlantic Airways. In 1999 he launched Virgin Mobile. Today, more than 400 brands exist under the Virgin name. These are companies in completely different spheres of business: an internet provider, a film studio, a video game publishing company, a railway company, and even an operator for space tourism.
Branson is known for his flamboyant and fun actions and wagers with other businessmen. He is one of the richest people in the world. His fortune amounts to $5 billion. Richard and the top managers of Virgin Group are called “hoodlums in paradise.”
