Ted Chiang is an American science-fiction writer with more awards than published works. He was born in Port Jefferson, near New York. He graduated from Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, with a degree in computer science. After that, he worked as a freelance technical writer for a computer publication around Seattle. At present, he lives in Bellevue, Washington, with his girlfriend, earning his living through computer programs and occasionally publishing science-fiction works.

He debuted with the short story “Tower of Babylon” (magazine “Omni,” 1990), which brought the young author a Nebula Award and two nominations for the Hugo and Locus awards. And only after that, he took part in the famous Clarion Workshop for young writers.

For the first time in Russian, all of Ted Chiang’s works published in Russian by the summer of 2019 have been released under one cover, in an audiobook format performed by Kirill Golovin.
