By the middle of the 21st century, people built a very comfortable world in which Metaverses replaced reality. And the overwhelming majority of people on Earth enjoy a cozy digital paradise, crammed into tiny capsule apartments and staying within the borders of gigantic agglomerations that occupy a negligible part of the planet’s surface. And all the world’s riches—finances, industry, transport, agriculture, and everything else—belong to the upper class. For them, the Network is not a place to live, but a tool of power. But what happens if the tool breaks? What if the unique technology that Shanti holds ends up in Kandin’s hands? What will happen to the world—both the real one and the virtual one?
