Talking to My Daughter About the Economy

Yanis Varoufakis (born 1961) is a professor of economics at the Universities of Athens and Texas, a consultant on the market for virtual goods in computer games for Valve, and the Minister of Economy of Greece (January 27 — July 6, 2015). In this small book, written in the form of conversations with his daughter Xenia, he tries to answer the main questions of economics, including where inequality comes from. Using examples from everyday life stories and classical texts and myths of European culture—from Oedipus and Faust to “Frankenstein” and “The Matrix”—the world-famous economist explains what economics is and how it affects our lives.
