Waking up in the role of the antagonist in a romance novel, the heroine decides to get the most out of her new position and live comfortably. But everyone around her is sure she can only be expected to stir up intrigue and mischief—so she has to take the plot into her own hands and change the rules of the game.
That’s how I ended up being Melissa Foddebrat—the duke’s daughter and the very “villain” from the canon. And honestly, I even like it: a title opens doors to a world of wealth, convenience, and almost unlimited freedom. It would be foolish not to use it.
The trouble is, the main characters seem to have decided that I must stay a caricature of a dastardly scoundrel and obediently follow tracks written long ago. They won’t get that. I’m going to rewrite this story my way and put everyone in their places. Now Melissa has no intention of living by someone else’s script.
