In South Africa, a group of fanatics is preparing an assassination attempt on a prominent political figure. Meanwhile in Sweden, real-estate broker Louise Okerblom disappears. Soon, her body is pulled from a well with a bullet in her forehead. In the past, there is not a single clue—no leads at all. The investigation is stuck. But then the police find, nearby the crime scene, a severed finger belonging to a Black man. Commissary Wallander knows little about apartheid and international politics. And even less does he know what could possibly link a former KGB agent and white nationalists in South Africa. Yet this time, the case concerns not just a few people, but the fate of an entire state.
