In the future, America finds itself in a state of extreme social stratification (even currency splits into “old and new bucks”) and the degradation of social interests. One of the main entertainments is brutal TV games, broadcast in huge numbers over free, publicly available television.
The participants of these games are forced to be residents of slums who don’t even have money for the most basic needs.
At the time of the novel’s action, there were no winners yet—this show had existed for no more than it took.

In 1987, the film “Running Man” (“The Running Man”) was released on screen (Arnold Schwarzenegger starred). However, THIS SCREEN ADAPTATION is very far from Stephen King’s novel and is effectively a remake of Yves Boisset’s 1983 film “Risk Price” based on R. Sheckley’s story.
