"The Hare’s Run Through the Fields" is a film novella by the famous French writer Sébastien Japrisot, on the basis of which a cult gangster film by René Clément was made, with Jean-Louis Trintignant in the lead.

Former French pilot Tony is on the run: an international gang of gypsies is hunting him, having sentenced him to death for killing someone through negligence. Information about the fugitive spreads from family to family; every gang member wants revenge, and there isn’t a single corner in France where he could hide. Trying to lie low in Canada, Tony—an expert at ending up in the wrong place at the wrong time—becomes a witness to a shootout and a murder by accident, and ends up captured by a very strange group planning a big scam. The protagonist has no choice but to join them…
