“Badgers” is Leonov’s first major novel, which marked a significant growth in the author’s artistic gift and brought him, already in 1925, to the front ranks of Soviet writers.
The novel “Badgers” is a large epic canvas depicting pre-revolutionary Moscow middle-class life and dramatic episodes of revolutionary struggle in the countryside. Deep knowledge of the old Russian way of life enabled the author to create vivid images of rural seekers of truth, and to portray the characters of urban merchants and craftsmen.
