We present to you an audiobook of the classic of world literature, the American writer Mark Twain (1835–1910) “A Million Pound Bank Note,” performed by Valery Garkalin, a People’s Artist of the Russian Federation.
A young American, Henry Adams, as a result of an unfortunate chain of circumstances, ends up on the other side of the Atlantic with no money in his pocket. Wandering around London, he catches the eye of two eccentric brothers who, shortly beforehand, had made a very unusual bet. After feeding him, they give him an envelope with money. The trouble is that what lies in the envelope is not money in the usual sense, and neither exchanging it nor buying anything with that banknote is possible.
