A private detective, Aleksandr Suvorov, receives an order to find a certain computer specialist named Yury Raysky. The job doesn’t seem too difficult: an experienced detective has handled plenty like it. But during the investigation, Suvorov has to survive monstrous trials in which other people’s illusions become his own reality. And the most bizarre and uncontrollable even by a sick imagination are the marionettes—human creations embedded forever into the computer network. From them come all the trouble; they decide everything and yet remain completely unmanageable. Neither common sense, nor logic, nor morality affects them in any way.
