Petr Aleshkovsky is a prose writer and historian, author of novels «The Fortress» (the «Russian Booker» Prize, 2016), «Fish», «Khor’s Life», «Vladimir Chigrintsev». After finishing the Department of Archaeology at Moscow State University, for several years he worked on restoring monuments of the Russian North.
The novel «Harlequin» is the biography of an unjustly forgotten Russian genius, early 18th-century poet Vasily Kirillovich Trediakovsky, an educator, translator, and academician of the Saint Petersburg Academy of Sciences—the creator of the system of Russian verse we use and to this day.
