Ardis Studio presents “An Island in Fire” — a historical novel by Jules Verne, published in 1884. The plot unfolds against the backdrop of the Greek war for independence in the 1820s in the Aegean Sea islands.
The novel appeared at a time when Jules Verne was approaching a turning point in his inspiration. What other “technological” stories could be invented after a journey to the Moon, a circumnavigation through the underwater world, or eighty days? So Verne returns to exoticism and romanticism, as in his earlier novels.
In 1827, the rebellious Greeks put up fierce resistance to the Turkish army. European volunteers of various nationalities supported them in this unequal struggle. Among them is the Frenchman Henri d’Albaré, a sailor and a lieutenant on a royal ship…
