This book is about the manifestation of a miracle from the Lord. In Rus—where it is dated with a distance of six centuries—there lived two great grand duchesses whose fates were not just similar. They were fates—twins. Both grand duchesses married early, out of great mutual love. Their husbands were outstanding people; both died tragically when they were 47, and both grand duchesses became widows at the age of 40. After the death of their husbands, they both took monastic vows, and Elizabeth also suffered a martyr’s death.
Telling the story of the cross-shaped path of the righteous grand duchesses Anna and Elizabeth, the book brings back complex periods of Russian history: Anna lived at the turning point between the 13th and 14th centuries, while Elizabeth lived through the 19th and 20th centuries. The Russian Orthodox Church has canonized them as saints.
