This story is about the life of a boy, Andryusha Lebedev, at home and at school. Andryusha’s parents are geologists and spend most of the year on expeditions. He lives with his grandparents. Andryusha goes to school. For him, a new life begins—full of interesting impressions and discoveries. It doesn’t take him long to get used to school routines, new classmates, his duties as a student and class attendant. Quarrels with the mischievous Slavik, a growing friendship with Vitya, pranks and serious matters, failures and achievements—everything causes the complex feelings of a boy who has been thrust out of the limited world of home into a large school collective. The teacher, the group of classmates, and new responsibilities help Andryusha become a good student and deeply come to love school.
