Troubled times. Two young commanders have been tasked with saving Moscow from the besieging Tushino thief. All victories have been won, enemies are defeated, and only the final step remains—but the heroes suddenly freeze before a decisive choice: what if it’s not necessary to take it? What if you prefer aesthetic contemplation and Homeric absurdism over feats and glory?
Another hero of the novel is Time. It’s turned upside down, like in a black hole, beyond the horizon of events. You can’t move in space anymore, but in time—there’s any amount. The heroes shamelessly ignore its inevitable passage, freely dealing with the future and the past. All they need to do is to freeze and act absolutely nothing.
