And it had to be Alanna of Trebton who was born a girl! It’s hard to live when you dream of becoming a knight, but instead you’re learning magic, singing, and dancing. Alanna’s twin brother, Thom, wants the exact opposite—to study magic and become a powerful sorcerer. One day the kids decide to swap places: Thom goes to a monastery, where he’ll learn magic, while Alanna, pretending to be a boy, heads for the royal palace to enter service as a page.
