She graduated from the University of Montana, earned a master’s degree in English language at Canada’s University of New Brunswick, and then received a master’s degree at the Iowa Writers’ Workshop. Her first prose attempts were published in magazines. In 2015, she became the winner of the O. Henry Prize for the story “Owl.” But her true literary debut was the novel “Idaho.”
