A talented Soviet inventor, on a space vehicle he constructed himself, makes an unprecedented flight to Mars. The planet, as the first astronauts of Earth expected, is inhabited. They are given a grand reception that only at first glance seems cordial—but in reality, it hides a deadly danger.
