"The Call of the Wanderer" is a fantastic novel by Mikhail Lipark, the second book in the eponymous cycle; genre: action fantasy, reincarnators. After I died, I ended up in the body of a half-elf and began training at an academy for monster hunters. That would be fine, except for the accursed mark on my chest—it forces me to do terrible things unless I quench its thirst in time. The school walls hold many secrets, and if I figure them out, I’ll be able to lift the curse. But for that, I must find a way to kill a dragon and leave the camp of radiation-scarred inhuman beings alive.

And one more thing: all the students were invited to a New Year’s ball, where… where… Well, you’ll find out for yourselves anyway.
