The Exclusion Zone

“The Zone of Exclusion” is a science-fiction novel by Andrey Livadny, episode five; the main time of action is the year 2608.

He was shot down over the Kyuiig a few days after the war, which began deep in space, reached Vadim Nechaev’s home planet.

The ship’s hull was riddled with shells, instruments knocked out, wiring harnesses melted, thick silence in the communicator of his hermosuit—plus a few emergency alarms on the surviving sections of the control panel seemed to shout: you won’t make it, you won’t manage to land an hastily converted orbital shuttle as a combat craft.

If it’s true that before death a person remembers their whole life, then in Vadim’s case there were two: one long, and the other short—and it was the last one he was remembering…
