Alistair MacLean (1922–1987) is a British author who created 28 gripping novels and adventure stories, as well as worked on screenplays. His works are extremely popular worldwide, with a total print run of over 150 million copies. Eighteen films were made based on his books, scripts, and ideas. In 1983, the University of Glasgow awarded him the title of Doctor of Letters.
