Romain Rolland is a French novelist and playwright, the founder of the genre of artistic biography, and a Nobel Prize laureate.
Rolland’s interest in Eastern philosophy led him to create biographies of famous Indian philosophers, one of which is “The Life of Ramakrishna.” The hero of his book is the son of a humble brahmin from a Bengali village, known throughout the world as Shri Ramakrishna. The teachings of this bhakta—a religious thinker, philosopher, and teacher—left their mark on all spheres of public and political life in India. The name Ramakrishna firmly entered the cultural heritage of all humankind.
