Natasha returns to a small town near Moscow to take an inheritance after her deceased sister. She is the last of a large family, with every member dying one after another over the course of several years. The older brother died by falling into a ravine; the other brother—the taxi driver—was killed by an unknown passenger; and then the sister took her own life. Natasha can’t believe that Anya committed suicide. She was perfectly self-sufficient: devout, kind, a bit out of touch with the world. Natasha finds out that after her sister’s death, money disappeared from the house, and also that Anya had been seeing some man. After questioning the neighbors, the young woman finally becomes convinced that something sinister is going on around her—and she can feel someone’s watchful gaze on her at all times…
