Tata Golubeva had an ordinary, modest, slightly sleepy life. An apartment in quiet central Moscow, work at a children’s music school, no problems—because everything was handled by the house owner, an authoritative grandmother. But the grandmother dies, and ordinary life begins to crumble like old plaster.
A small town in the Tver region—where Tata ends up after fulfilling her grandmother’s last request—at first seems like a paradise valley. She is offered a job, given a place to live, a relative is found, and a new love is already on the doorstep.
But Tata starts looking for facts about her family history—and finds so many unexpected things that nothing can stay in its place. Old friends turn out not to be who they claimed to be; the walls of the monastery guard not only their own secrets; and danger creeps closer and closer.
And one day, the town discovers a corpse...
